Man arrested in fraud investigation

Toronto - In December 2007, police became involved in a fraud investigation where it is alleged that the accused and his accomplices defrauded a company of a substantial amount of electronic equipment.  On Thursday, February 28, 2008, officers from 23 Major Crime Unit arrested and charged a man with numerous fraud-related offences.
Toronto - President Maureen O'Neill announced on March 5, Toronto Real Estate Board Members recorded 6,015 resale home transactions last month, down 11 per cent in the Greater Toronto Area overall, 14 per cent in the City of Toronto and 9 per cent in the 905 suburbs compared to February 2007.
Toronto - For the first time, a former tenant will chair the Toronto Community Housing Corporation’s board of directors. City Council confirmed the appointment of David Mitchell, a current board member, at its meeting on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
Toronto - On Friday, February 29, 2008, at about 9 p.m., police were called to the Ellesmere Park Community Centre on Canadian Road.  A loaded handgun was recovered. Baldwin Junius, 20, faces six charges.

City to begin fixing potholes

The City of Toronto will increase the number of crews that fix potholes on city roads as it winds down its snow removal program.  About 100 staff (25-30 crews) are involved in pothole and road repairs year-round. These crews are principally deployed for pothole repair, however, many have been recently assigned to the snow removal effort.
Toronto - On Saturday, February 16, 2008, police responded to a theft of a dog call outside a restaurant at Yonge Street/Roxborough Street.  Richard Cassibo, 54, of Toronto, and Andrew Footit, 31, of Toronto face nine charges.
Toronto - On Sunday, February 17, 2008, police received a call for a sexual assault at a dentist's office, at 2155 Lawrence Avenue East.  Dr. Kishen Vellore, 48, of Markham faces two charges.
Toronto - The City of Toronto has activated additional support services to help get homeless people in from the cold by calling an Extreme Cold Weather Alert. The alert is in effect until further notice.
