Toronto - International Women’s Day has become a global day of recognition to celebrate the collective power of women past, present and future. It is celebrated across the world on March 8 and is an important opportunity to address the social, economic and political barriers, as well as inspire women and celebrate their achievements. This year’s Canadian theme is “Strong Women: Strong World.”
Today's ceremony at headquarters recognized community and Service members for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the city.
The ceremony also featured the announcement, by a group of female Service members, of their goal to be a Title Home Donor for Habitat for Humanity, Toronto.
They have committed to build a Habitat for Humanity home in 2008. Members will participate in Habitat’s “Women Build” project in Scarborough this fall.
