Toronto - “Jeff Healey was a tremendous Torontonian who never once let personal adversity stand in the way of his becoming one the most distinctive guitarists of our time.
“While he became an international star - sharing the stage and recording with other musical giants like George Harrison and B.B. King - Jeff was always in touch with his roots. He was the ultimate Toronto ambassador, celebrating his hometown wherever he traveled in the world.
“Jeff was a committed family man who, in recent years, chose to stay close to home with his wife Cristie and their two young children. Our city was enriched by his presence as he showcased not only his own unique genius, but the virtuosity of others at exciting local venues he established to further the musical cause. His passing leaves a huge void in our city.
“On behalf of Toronto City council and all Torontonians, I want to extend deepest sympathies to Jeff's family, his friends and all those who were touched by his remarkable life.”
