Two men arrested in dog theft investigation

On Saturday, February 16, 2008, police responded to a theft of a dog call outside a restaurant at Yonge Street/Roxborough Street.
It is alleged that:
- a dog walker secured a dog to the outside of a restaurant on Yonge Street,
- when she returned, the dog and its leash were gone,
- police were called, along with the dog's owner,
- a reward was issued by the owner for the return of the dog,
- the accused contacted the owner and returned the dog,
- a cheque was issued as reward.
Richard Cassibo, 54, of Toronto, and Andrew Footit, 31, of Toronto, are each charged with:
1) Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence,
2) Corruptly Taking Reward for Recovery of Goods,
3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime,
4) Attempt Fraud Over.
Richard Cassibo is additionally charged with Public Mischief.
They are both scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 10 a.m., room 501.
