Toronto - Between January 1, 2008 and January 31, 2008, the third Lieutenant Governor’s Book Drive took place throughout Ontario. This year, new children’s books were collected at various police stations in Toronto and throughout Ontario, to provide reading materials for children in remote Aboriginal communities in northern Ontario.

In Toronto alone, it is estimated that over 20,000 children’s books were donated. Personnel from the Department of National Defence will be picking up these books from Toronto, and other locations throughout Ontario, to deliver them to the communities where they are needed most.

The Toronto Police Service would like to thank all members of the public and the various partner agencies who selflessly donated and collected books on behalf of the Lieutenant Governor, in order to increase children’s literacy and make this year’s book drive another success.
