Toronto - On Thursday, January 10, 2008, it is reported that members of the 52 Division Vice Squad received information about women lured to Canada from Eastern Europe under the pretext of working as models.

It is further reported that:
- these women were brought into the country with false passports,
- once they arrived, they were forcibly confined and told they would be working as escorts, performing prostitution-related activities for the ringleaders of this operation.

As the details of this operation emerged, investigators were able to identify a number of individuals allegedly involved in this international human trafficking ring.

Members of the 52 Division Vice Squad, assisted by the 52 Division Community Response Unit and officers from the York Regional Police Service, executed simultaneous search warrants on several addresses. As a result of these search warrants, six people were arrested.

Three of these individuals are charged with a number of offences and the investigation is continuing.

Arrested are:
Artur Boris Tomchin, 35, of Toronto,
Andrei Khazarov, 39, of Thornhill,
Daniel Leshinsky, 38, Thornhill.

They were charged with:
1- Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence,
2- Trafficking in Persons,
3- Receive Benefit from Trafficking in Persons,
4- Withholding Documents,
5- Exploitation,
6- Procuring Person to become a Prostitute,
7- Live Off the Avails of Prostitution,
8- Forcible Confinement,
9- Exercise Control,
10- Threaten Bodily Harm

The were scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, January 12, 2008, Old City Hall, room 101.

As a result of further investigation, members of the 52 Division Vice Section and Immigration Canada located an additional victim who has come forward and provided information that has led to another arrest. On Sunday, February 13, 2008, Volha Vassilievna Venar, 35, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1- Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence,
2- Trafficking in Persons,
3- Receive Benefit from Trafficking in Persons,
4- Exploitation,
5- Procuring Person to become a Prostitute,
6- Live Off the Avails of Prostitution
