On Sunday, January 6, 2008, at approximately 12:21 p.m., a six-year-old girl, was on a TTC streetcar, going westbound on Dundas Street East.

It is reported that:

- the six-year-old girl got off, via the rear doors, at Jarvis Street,

- at that time, a man was driving a stolen van westbound on Dundas Street East and did not stop for the streetcar,

- the TTC driver attempted to warn both the driver of the van and the girl by sounding the streetcar's gong,

- the girl was struck by the van’s mirror and bounced off the side of the van,

- the driver stopped, looked at what had happened, then fled on foot.

It is further reported that:

- a second citizen, who witnessed the events, gave chase and caught the suspect,

- he brought him back to the scene of the accident and the suspect was arrested.

The six-year-old girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Andrew Thurston, 38, no fixed address is charged with:

1) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime,

2) Fail to Remain,

3) Fail to Report Accident,

4) Fail to Render Assistance at Scene of Accident,

5) Drive No Licence,

6) Pass Streetcar improperly.

He was scheduled to appear in College Park Court on Monday, January 7, 2008 at 10 a.m.
