Toronto - For the first time since the late 70's, the TTC will offer a free ride home on New Year's Eve.
The Commission approved the free ride at yesterday's meeting at City Hall.
Customers will not have to pay a fare from midnight on New Year's Eve until the end of New Year's Eve service, approximately 4 a.m., January 1, 2008.
"This is a wise investment in public safety on a night of celebration," says TTC Chair Adam Giambrone. "We encourage people to leave their cars at home and ride the TTC. If we can prevent even a few incidents due to drinking and driving, it will be a much happier New Year's Eve, and the whole community benefits."
