Toronto, June 27, 2007 - The 2007 CFL season begins today as the Toronto Argonauts take on the 2006 Grey Cup champion B.C. Lions in a special 6:30 p.m. start time at Rogers Centre. The countdown is on as the Double Blue strive to represent the East in the 2007 Grey Cup to be played on their home turf this November for the first time in 15 years. The road to the Cup starts now, as tomorrow’s game will have a Grey Cup theme.
With Damon Allen the projected starter and Head Coach Michael “Pinball” Clemons suggesting that another quarterback named “Mike” will also see the field, the battle is on. Newcomer Jamel White is poised to show his stuff at running back and Canadian Obed Cetoute should impress at receiver. Off-season signings NT Adriano Belli and OG Taylor Robertson will also suit up in Double Blue for the first time in their careers.
The festivities start at 5:00 p.m. with the Steelback Streetfest on Bremner Blvd. and continue with outdoor entertainment surrounding Rogers Centre. Grand Prix cars will be on display and the first 5000 fans at the game will receive passes to the Steelback Grand Prix. 10,000 fans will receive a 2007 commemorative Argos schedule magnet. Downtown workers are encouraged to come and enjoy a drink immediately following a day at the office and then take in the game, presented by Pizza Pizza.
New CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon will present the 2006 CFL All-Star Awards to SB Arland Bruce III, CB Byron Parker and K/P Noel Prefontaine on the field before the game. At halftime, three lucky fans will get the chance to come on-field and participate in the Pizza Pizza Grey Cup Challenge. The winner will receive Grey Cup Party Series passes.
