In August 2005, when Beth Biggs received a phone call from the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, then Governor General of Canada, asking her to design and construct the Clarkson Cup, she felt “surprise, excitement and fear.” She now says, “A highlight of my career, the Clarkson Cup has given me an intense sense of satisfaction and pride in being a part of Canadian history.”
The Clarkson Cup: Lord Stanley Move Over!, presented by the Department of Museum Volunteers (DMV) and the ROM, will cover the development and production of this important piece of Canadian contemporary silver-smithing, a symbolic piece for women’s athletics and sports. The cup was designed and hand-crafted through the collaboration of native and non-native artists from Nunavut and truly represents a Canadian identity.
