On Tuesday, October 23, 2007, in the downtown area, three people were stabbed with a knife.

It is alleged that:

- in the first assault, shortly after 11 a.m., a man standing on the sidewalk in the Victoria Street/Lombard Street area was approached from behind by the accused, and stabbed in the back of the neck,

- the accused immediately fled the scene on foot,

- a few minutes later, the accused approached two women who were waiting at a streetcar stop in the Queen Street East/Sherbourne Street area,

- the accused stabbed one of the women in the cheek,

- the accused then stabbed the second woman in the chin,

- the accused escaped from the area on foot.

All three victims were taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

The public was informed of the attacks and helped police with information which led to an arrest.

A fourth attack, somewhat similar in nature, occurred in the vicinity at approximately 3 p.m. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to his hands as he defended himself. The suspect in that attack escaped on foot. The victim was taken to hospital and is undergoing treatment.

Farid Marounisi, 24, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

1) 3 counts of Attempted Murder,
2) Possession of Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace,
3) Carry Concealed Weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in courtroom #501 at College Park Courts on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at 10 a.m.
