Public Safety Alert: Young girl approached by man

The Toronto Police Service would like to alert the public about a suspicious man who is reported to have approached a child in the Coxwell Avenue/Ashland Avenue area.
It is reported that:
- on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a young girl, believed to be between five and eight, was walking in the Coxwell Avenue/Ashland Avenue area,
- a man approached her and reached for her,
- when the man was questioned by a citizen, the man claimed to be the girl’s uncle, but the young girl denied the man’s claim and ran from the area,
- the man returned to his vehicle and fled.
Police have not yet identified the young girl, and would like to speak with her.
The man is described as black, 35, average build, clean-cut, and wearing blue jeans and a black jacket. He was driving an older, white, mid-size four-door vehicle.
Police are requesting the assistance of anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have information that would help identify either the man or young girl.
