Toronto - Councillor Maria Augimeri (Ward 9 York Centre) and representatives of the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority will join local youth to celebrate the end of season of the Urban Farm and the official opening of Braeburn House.

Date: Friday, August 31
Time: 11:30 a.m.
Location: Urban Farm, 4929 Jane St.

Youth, between 16 and 24 years of age, from the local community have worked on the six acre Urban Farm since May to grow a variety of vegetables. The youth attended seminars on preparing the land and planting methods and received lessons on life skills. All the work was done manually with no motorized equipment. The resulting harvest of onions, peppers, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes and squash will be donated to food relief programs, AIDS Hospices, and senior’s residences.

The event will include the opening of Braeburn House. Originally built in 1820 and moved from Weston to the present location, Braeburn House was donated by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. The building will be used for training, office space and community cooking.
