Toronto - Visit the St. Lawrence Market Kitchen during Buskerfest for food and history shows with unique views of the city. Open for almost one year, the St. Lawrence Market Kitchen, and its history and food shows, has received rave reviews.

On August 25, the Kitchen is offering two food and history shows, one at 10 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. Yianni (John) Sfiris of Yianni’s Kitchen, having just returned from Greece, samples traditional Greek cooking in a new way. Buskers will also be there entertaining shoppers.

Starting September 1, Bruce Bell - the local historian and expert on St. Lawrence Market - will provide a history and food show at noon every Saturday. The food and history shows feature a 15-20 minute history lesson on the St. Lawrence Market, with Old Town Toronto being brought to life by the actor, historian and author. Following the show is a food tasting that is arranged by a farmer or merchant tenant of the St. Lawrence Market. Previous tastings have ranged from prosciutto and cheese, fresh foods, fresh sprouts and wheat grass shooters.

On September 1, Wes Sovereign, of Sovereign Farms North Market announces the arrival of local late harvest strawberries at the St. Lawrence Market.

Owned by the City of Toronto, the St. Lawrence Market is one of the top 25 Markets of the world. The Kitchen is operated by the St. Lawrence Market Tenants’ Association and is available to the public to rent for special events and functions. The Kitchen is a bright, open, historic space, overlooking the St. Lawrence Market interior and, through five, 20-foot windows, offers unique views the historic Flatiron building and Toronto skyline. The room is being transformed into a culinary centre that can be used for cooking lessons and receptions.
