Toronto - Today Habitat for Humanity Canada formally launched its partnership with the Duracell Fire Safety Campaign.  The Duracell Fire Safety Campaign will provide Fire Safety Kits to 100 Canadian families moving into Habitat for Humanity homes this year.

Toronto, August 23, 2007 - Today Habitat for Humanity Canada formally launched its partnership with the Duracell Fire Safety Campaign at its Toronto affiliate’s build site at 4200 Kingston Road in Scarborough. The Duracell Fire Safety Campaign will provide Fire Safety Kits to 100 Canadian families moving into Habitat for Humanity homes this year. The Duracell campaign is in its sixth year but this is the first time that the company and Habitat have joined together to promote fire safety education and awareness.

At the Scarborough event the Habitat for Humanity Toronto partner families moving into the houses received a Duracell Fire Safety Kit consisting of two smoke detectors, a digital carbon monoxide detector, one fire extinguisher, a safety ladder, a Duracell flashlight and Duracell batteries. Local firefighters also worked with the families on home fire safety and provided fire safety tips including information on how to plan an escape route using their own home floor plan.

“Habitat for Humanity Canada wants to build safe homes for its partner families,” said David Hughes, President & CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada. “We greatly appreciate the contribution that Duracell is making to ensure that 100 Habitat families will be equipped to identify, understand and manage fire risks in their homes and to give them the knowledge and tools they need to protect their lives and property in the event of a fire.”

“Its always tragic when someone loses a home to fire and we certainly want to do what we can to help Habitat families, who have worked so hard to become home owners, secure their homes and futures. Our program is designed to help families minimize the risk of a fire in the home and to survive a fire if one does occur. We welcome the opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity Canada to bring this program to its partner families during our sixth annual Duracell fire safety drive,” said Duracell spokesperson David Stitt.

Habitat for Humanity Canada has distributed the Duracell Fire Safety Kits to various affiliates across Canada.
