Toronto Firefighters teach children to ‘plan an escape’ at CNE

Toronto - Toronto Fire Services invites the public to attend the unveiling of the ‘Great Escape Display’ during Kids’ Day at the Canadian National Exhibition.
Date: Monday, August 20
Time: 11 a.m.
Location: Canadian National Exhibition Grounds, Fire Station 346 on Ontario Drive
The Great Escape Display is an interactive fire safety educational tool for children, and has been donated to Toronto Fire Services by the Co-operators and Staying Alive, a Canadian non-profit organization that promotes public safety education. The display consists of a flat screened computer monitor where children can play the Great Escape Game.
Fire Chief William Stewart said, “This game helps teach children to make the right choices when escaping from a residential fire, and encourages them to design a home escape plan and to practice that plan with their families.”
Statistics show that families who have created and then practiced a home escape plan are far more effective when evacuating from a house fire.
In addition to the unveiling, well known musician and children’s entertainer Al Simmons will be performing throughout the day at: 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m.
